I have come to the realization, however, that it is my time to retire. So I will be saying thank you and goodbye at the end of November. The good news is that Brenda Arreola will continue her administrative duties for Heart to Heart and that a search for my replacement will be happening soon.I am so grateful to St. Gertrude for allowing me to give 30 years of service to the people of the parish and the neighborhood through the Heart to Heart Ministry. It is because of many caring and supportive people that Heart to Heart has been able to provide a little bit of help to our older friends in need.
I especially want to thank Fr. Bill Kenneally for being open to having an outreach in our parish to help our seniors, along with Karen Ladd, a former parishioner who laid the groundwork. Also, with Fr. Bill’s help, I was able to grow this ministry which he also named—Heart to Heart. Special thanks also to Fr. Dominic Grassi for supporting Heart to Heart and looking out for seniors all along the way, and to Fr. Richard Pendergast for supporting Heart to Heart since he has been here. A special thank you to Fr. Mike Bradley for his support over the years by running in the Chicago Marathon and donating the money raised to Heart to Heart. And, lastly to Mike Tobin and all the actors and musicians for their wonderful support to this Ministry. Just so you know, Fr. Mike will run for Heart to Heart in the 2018 Chicago Marathon and the Tobin Play will be held on Saturday, October 20.
I am so very thankful for all the people who supported Heart to Heart, our parish and the Heart to Heart staff, especially Brenda, and all the dedicated volunteers who gave us countless hours of care over the years. It was because of so many generous and kind people that the Heart to Heart Ministry was able to thrive as an outreach from St. Gertrude Parish.
I feel truly blessed to have had these years at Heart to Heart to try and respond to God’s calling to serve others. I know that whatever I have given, I received more in return. I know, too, that many people have helped me along the way, and I am so very grateful to each and every one of you. May God bless you all!
