The month of October focuses on the amazing work done by Heart to Heart, a ministry grown at St. Gertrude that serves
some of our most vulnerable residents in
Edgewater—our senior citizens.
Two annual fundraisers help support this ministry. Father Mike runs the Chicago Marathon to raise funds and parishioners put on a performance. More info is below!
On Sunday, October 13, over 45,000 runners will take part in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. A number of parishioners and I will be among them. If you have a prayer intention that you would like me to remember as I run the 26.2 miles, please send your intention to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This year, I am once again running to support the wonderful ministry of Heart to Heart, our parish’s organization that reaches out to the elderly and shut-ins of the Edgewater community. Heart to Heart provides a helping hand to those who need a ride to the doctor, home visits, and wellness checks. There is also a medical lending service that provides walkers, canes, and other assistance.
Because of your support for my run, last year over $15,700 was raised. Once again, I ask that you please contribute to Heart to Heart. Envelopes for this cause are available in the back of church, or you could donate online.
For those runners who are taking part in the Chicago Marathon (or any marathon), you will have the prayers and encouragement of the St. Gertrude community. Please let me know that you are running, and I’ll add your name to our prayer intentions. It’s always good to realize that people are praying that God will guide our steps.
Thank you very much for your support for this run!
