Baptisms at St. Gertrude
In the parish community of St. Gertrude, we celebrate baptisms (for infants and children up to the age of 6) on the second & fourth Sunday of each month, following the conclusion of our 10:30 am Sunday Mass, except during Lent.
Exceptions may apply, so please confirm the availability of your desired date with our Rectory office.

Baptismal Preparation
Parents are required to attend a Baptismal preparation session prior to their child’s baptism. This session is done via Zoom and offers parents insight and guidance concerning the Sacrament of Baptism.
Once you have secured a date for the baptism of your child, you will receive information about the Zoom meeting. If parents have already attended a pre-baptismal session, the class requirement will be waived.
Although it is not required for you to be a registered parishioner at our parish to celebrate your child’s baptism with us at St. Gertrude, you are always welcome to become a part of our parish community! We would be happy to register you at any time.
Baptismal Form
Parents are asked fill out the Baptismal Intake Form below and email it to stgertrude1420@stgertrudechicago.org or call the Rectory office and provide the necessary information for the baptismal certificates.
Selection of Godparents
When considering the selection of godparents for your child, please be mindful that they must fulfill certain criteria. To serve as a godparent, the person you select must be at least 16 years of age and be a fully-initiated Catholic (having received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist), and who practices their faith by attending Mass on a regular basis.
We recommend selecting two godparents for your child, but you may decide to only have one.
Baptizing Older Children
If your child is 7 years old or older, it is necessary for them to attend our Religious Education before baptism.
Baptizing Adults/Becoming a Catholic
If you are an unbaptized adult, we invite you to explore our Order of Christian Initiation of Adults process and discern if this might be what God is calling you to. Please check our OCIA program for additional information.
